b) Pen and ink, all black and white c) Half page: 10 drawings Quarter-page or smaller: 23 drawings |
The original paper quality is quite good, as you can see from the excellent condition of the pages from early editions. One hundred years old and still readable copies!
Top margin: 2.5 centimeters
Bottom margin: 2.5 centimeters Right margin: 2.5 centimeters Left margin: 1 centimeter Text block: 6.5 centimeters wide and 13 centimeters tall The book is a good, easily-handleable size --- it fits neatly in the grip of smaller hands. The binding is well made and solid.
The text itself is not particularly large (.5 cm tall), but all of the margins are wide. Between that and the small drawings sprinkled throughout, it has an easy readability that is very appropriately to the intermediate age range of the book’s intended audience. The book’s font is Plantin. (Identifont.com) |
The Archives and Special Collections Library at Vassar College holds the papers and archives of Jean Webster. It includes personal correspondence and drafts of unfinished stories. None of the final drafts (manuscripts) of her novels remain.
